Site: Boddington, Western Australia
Client: Newmont
Service: SMP, Electrical, Civil, Commissioning
Capability: Project Delivery
Industry: Mining and Resources
Scope of Work:
The scope of work required us to deliver a full upgrade of the HME Washdown Facility at Newmont Boddington Gold to address persistent water management and treatment issues. The existing system could not reliably maintain water levels, contain runoff in the adjacent pond, or process inflows to the required quality standards.
Works included demolition and removal of the existing treatment equipment, pumps, piping, valves and associated pond infrastructure, followed by installation of a new water treatment system with updated pumping, piping and control arrangements, as well as new washdown spray walls on both sides of the pad. Supporting civil and electrical upgrades were also required to integrate the new system and ensure operational continuity.
The revised configuration removed the containment pond from service, with water to be circulated between the wash pad, new treatment system and existing 310kL tank.
Key activities completed include:
- Removed existing treatment equipment, pumps, piping, valves and pond-related assets.
- Installed new water treatment system with vendor-supplied pumps, piping and valves.
- Installed new washdown spray walls on both sides of the pad.
- Removed electrical systems linked to former treatment equipment and pumps.
- Installed new electrical infrastructure for the upgraded treatment system.
- Demolished selected concrete to suit new equipment layouts.
- Installed new concrete foundations, bollards and traffic barriers.
- Repaired leading edges at wash facility entry and exit points.
